How to choose wedding invitation cards that feel like you
A practical guide to choosing a wedding card style, organizing ceremony details, and checking your invitation before sharing.
Start with the celebration, then choose the design
Your wedding invitation should help guests understand the celebration and find the details they need. Before choosing a border or font, write down the couple's names, the events guests are invited to, the date, the time, and the full venue address.
Choose a visual direction that suits your celebration. Maroon and gold can create a warm, traditional feel; soft florals suit a garden celebration; a simple layout with generous space puts the wording first. You do not need to fit every decorative idea onto one card.
Make room for every important detail
Long names, bilingual wording, and multiple ceremonies need more space than a short reception invitation. Select a template after you have a rough version of your text, so you can judge whether it will fit comfortably.
- Include the couple's names and the names of hosts if you want them shown.
- Write each event's date, start time, and venue clearly.
- Add an RSVP contact and a reply date if you need a headcount.
- Keep travel directions and longer schedules in a separate message or additional card.
Balance decorative fonts with readable text
A script font can make the names feel special, but it is usually easier to read addresses and timings in a simpler font. Check the contrast between your text and the background, particularly over floral patterns or gold textures.
Open the finished design at the size your guests will actually see on a phone. If you need to zoom to read the venue, increase the text size or shorten the wording.
Proofread before you share
Ask another person to check names, dates, AM or PM, venue spelling, and the RSVP number. If you include more than one language, have a fluent reader review each version. For a printed invitation, ask your printer to confirm the required dimensions, resolution, and bleed before ordering.
