What should a wedding invitation say?

A clear wedding invitation names the couple, invites the guest to a specific celebration, and gives the date, time, and location. Add host names, an RSVP contact, and any essential guest instructions as needed. The examples below use placeholders: replace every bracketed detail before sharing.

A formal invitation from the families

Together with their families, [Name] and [Name] request the pleasure of your company as they celebrate their wedding on [day, date] at [time], at [venue, full address]. Your presence would mean so much to us. Kindly RSVP to [contact] by [date].

If parents or other family members are hosting, you can place their names above the couple's names. Agree on names, titles, and the order with your families before finalizing the card.

A warm, modern invitation

We are getting married! Join [Name] and [Name] for a celebration of love, laughter, and a new beginning on [date] at [time]. Find us at [venue, full address]. Please let [contact] know by [date] if you can join us.

Use a tone that sounds like you. A short, sincere message leaves more room for the event details and often works well on a small digital card.

A message to send with your WhatsApp card

Dear [guest name], we would love you to join us for our wedding on [date] at [venue]. We have attached our invitation with the celebration details. Please reply by [RSVP date] to let us know if you can come. With love, [names].

Send the venue map link separately so it is easy to open. Personalize the greeting, and make sure the attached invitation and message show the same date and location.

Check the wording against your guest list

If some guests are invited only to the reception, create wording that names the reception clearly. For several ceremonies at different venues, use separate event sections instead of one long paragraph. Confirm whether children or additional guests are included through clear, personal communication.
